Lost Data? What NOT to Do and Why
By :
James Walsh
It’s every computer user’s nightmare. Suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, in one fell swoop of fate, all your data appears to have disappeared into the ether. It was there only a moment ago; everything was copasetic, but now all hell seems to have broken loose, and most importantly, that data–that precious, irreplaceable recourse no user or organisation can do without, has gone.
Improving Awareness of Computer Forensics Services
By :

Somehow, when it comes to crime, the overall impression of almost the entire nation is either archaic or absurdly gadget-dominated. The extremes are still Hercule Poirot (who sometimes solves the entire case without even stepping out of his home) or James Bond (does he have anything to do with deductions at all?). Computer forensics, in the midst of all this, is still an unknown concept, and even the police seem to be slightly lost about it. Till date, there are several cases being hotly debated since their judgements have gone against the logicality of the witnesses and been influenced clearly by the ignorance of the jury on computer-related crimes. The 2002 – 03 British Crime Survey revealed that 18% of the home pc users in the UK admitted to having virus attacks on their computer. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted a Security Breaches survey in 2006, showing that 62% of UK companies have had computer security problems. They also added that these statistics should not be taken as absolute, since a large number of people are not even aware that their data is being attacked.

It is known since long that at least 6% of the personal computer users would face prospective data loss at some time or the other in a year.
