Would You Like To Understand Anxiety?

Understanding anxiety and what causes it can help you on the road to dealing more effectively with your own or someone elses anxiety. We all at some stages in our lives come under some kind of stress that causes an adverse reaction and affects the way we deal with the situation.

Generally when we become stressed, a person knows quickly and effectively what they need to counter act whatever is causing the stress. However for those who suffer from anxiety they will find that they suffer from excessive amounts of feelings relating to fear, uncertainty or apprehension. In some cases, they may suffer an anxiety attack and yet they may not actually be under attack from anything or anyone. In many cases their anxiety will continue even once the threat has passed or been removed.

Understanding anxiety can be hard as there are many different types of anxiety that a person can suffer from and some are actually more severe than others. The more severe the anxiety then the longer the symptoms associated with the condition last and the way in which the person behaves can become more and more erratic.

Anxiety is a state of mind but it can have huge affects on peoples physical health as well as their mental health. People with the most common form of anxiety , Generalized Anxiety Disorder, make up as much as 5% of the population in the USA. These figures show that anxiety is a much bigger problem than most of us realize.

The biggest problem that one faces if a person is diagnosed with this form of anxiety disorder is that they often have other medical problems which compound the situation. In well over half the people in the USA who suffer from anxiety, they suffer from other forms of this disorder or depression as well.

There are some symptoms that many people who suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder will display, including Being constantly edgy and restless. Have trouble sleeping, which contributes to the irritability that also seems common amongst GAD sufferers Never wishing to stand out, at work, in their social life or anywhere that there is a crowd of people.

Working for a living usually brings its own pressures, targets and deadlines to meet , meetings to go to and sometimes work colleagues that are not that pleasant. Most of us don't let these problems bother us long term, if you have a anxiety disorder you won't be able to help but let them take over your mind and build up and up until you can't face work anymore.

Luckily,as long as they seek medical attention you will find that not just GAD but other anxiety disorders such as Panic Attacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can actually be controlled. Your doctor will often prescribe a course of medication to take. By understanding anxiety and how it can affect you and your family, you will be in a better position to deal with it should it arise.

Anxiety like any mental health issue is more complicated than it seems, it can be affected by something as simple as a diet or lifestyle change. You must be totally honest with your Dr when you go to see him tell him what you eat and drink as well as whether you are on any other medication (prescribed or not).
