Tips for building your car stereo system
By: Joe Marky
Car stereos have become a big business today. It is a must in every music lovers car. Nothing is better than having your favorite music playing while driving. Although its an expensive affair, you can build a good car stereo for your self at a reasonable cost.
The first thing you have to do is to decide on a car stereo head unit that suits you. This is the main control unit of the whole car stereo system and comes in the form of a tuner, a cassette player, a compact disc player, or a combination of the two. Most people now tend to buy CD player head units as the CDs have replaced the cassette and also provide a better sound quality.
The head unit will be wired in where your existing car stereo unit now rests. You will probably have to buy a universal mounting kit and the two head units will more than likely be two different sizes. These mounting kits are only about $25. You should also get a universal wiring harness to make the installation easier. This comes with detailed instruction on how to match up the different wires.
The next thing you will need to do is to determine what kind of speakers you want for your car stereo system. You will have to make this judgment in relation to the head unit you have bought. The instruction will tell you how many speakers the head unit can handle. Also, you will want to check the size and the power rating of the speakers. You will also have to determine where you wish to locate the speakers. Some people decide to mount the speakers and other accessories in the trunk of their car in order to conserve passenger space.
Next you have to pick out an amplifier. This is a device that will boost the overall power of your system and will provide a better quality high volume sound. They come in a wide variety of prices and sizes depending upon how much power you wish to have for your system.
Some accessories would include bass boosters, MP3 hook up adapters, lights and CD changers.
You must also keep in mind that the more complicated a car stereo system is the more difficult it is to install. If you buy a complete system, then some companies will offer free installation. For someone who knows little about installing a car stereo system this is a wise choice.
