Acne – The Different Types And The Severities

Acne is commonly seen among teenagers during their puberty, though one can find their appearance at any age, race or sex. Acne appears as pimples, blackheads, zits or cysts, whiteheads, nodules spots. Acne Treatments should be done with the help of dermatologist.

The common form of acne is the zits or pimples, though other forms are also to be seen among people. The simplest form of acne is acne vulgaris that means common acne. This differs among persons and one can have the erratic whitehead that appear as mild pink bumps to the large cysts that when squeezed hurts and can cause scarring.

Acne could be divided into two basic types or groups, the inflammatory type and the non-inflammatory type. In the Inflammatory types, the acne is found as comedos which are inflamed due to the presence of bacteria in the follicles that are clogged. Some other types of acne in this category are as follows:

Papules – this are the red and inflamed ones that appear as soft bumps and has no head. One should not squeeze the papule, as the condition of them will only aggravate.

Nodules – this is the large and painful swelling that is present deep inside the skin and may cause scarring if not treated well.

Cysts - this are also found deep within the skin like nodules. However, they are filled with pus that is similar to that seen in pustules. It can result in scarring of the area even after complete cure.

Pustules – this is similar to whitehead and appears like red circle. They appear as inflamed and has red circle that has white or yellow center in them.

In the Non-inflammatory types, the acne comes as two types of comedos, also known as blocked pores. These are whiteheads and the blackheads. They appear as mild to moderate in their severity. The whiteheads are the closed comedo that is actually the plugged follicles which are present below the skin surface. The blackheads are the open comedo and appear as a bump or plug on the surface of the skin. They appear as yellow or black in color.

Acne Rosacea often looks similar to acne vulgaris. Hence, there is often confusion among these two types.

Acne Rosacea is very commonly seen among millions of people around the world. They occur mainly in adult life among people between the age group of 30 and 60 years. Children are also sometimes seen affected with this type of acne. However, it is the women who have this kind of acne than men, though the acne among men are more severe compared to women. This acne is seen as red rash that appear in certain areas in the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. There are pimples and bumps accompanying the red rashes.

In Acne Rosacea, the blood vessels of the skin become noticeable. Those having this type of acne hardly have pimples developing on their skin. One can have this type of acne after taking certain spicy foods and alcohol.
