If you aren't a skilled bargainer, then merchant might not be the profession for you. You could possibly work as a mercenary, offering to protect weaker players on their quests, but there are so many people around that you are hardly likely to find someone willing to pay you for this.
While mercenary work is so unrealistic it is hardly worth considering, what might be worth it is production. People often need special items made or materials mined that they don't have the skill to do themselves, and you might be able to make money producing items for sale to other players.
