The Truth Regarding Cars And Car Auctions -- Find Worthwhile Ideas Now

By: Nathan Knightley

Car auctions are great ways to purchase cars at deep discount. Anything from older, junk fixer uppers to great newer cars even to expensive luxury models can be found. Whether it's for personal use or resale, a lot of people acquire automobiles in this manner. This pleasant experience, however, can quickly turn sour if you don't know a few things.

Maybe the car isn't as wonderful as it seemed. Every car at an auction isn't a hidden gem. Cars sold at such auctions are generally sold according to used car laws which tend to make it an as is sale. The salesman responds “as is” to every question. After the sale is final the buyer tries to drive the car, but the doors fall off and the engine explodes. The unfortunate buyer shouts “I want the car as was!” Don't let that happen to you.

Car auctions generally give potential buyers time to look over the cars. If an auction won't do that, run. Arrive early. Test drive the cars you like. Bring a mechanic to provide an expert eye. If that isn't possible, at least drive the car for an inspection during the test drive. A good mechanic can provide a thorough inspection in a short time. Check other elements for damage. This includes the body, upholstery, and bumpers .

The very nature of auctions leads to another common issue. People assume that the auction price will be a great deal, but often it ends up being more expensive than purchasing the item through a normal sales process. That holds true for car auctions too. Bidding might rise beyond the real value of the car. Add the fees often associated with the auction and it means great care must be taken to know the real value of a car. Know the prices of similar models in similar conditions from Kelly Blue Book or other sales data. Phones with Internet access can bring this info to your fingertips while attending. It's pretty foolish to pay more for a car than it's worth even if it's an eye catcher.

It's not hard to find bargains at auctions. But keep your eyes and ears open. There's a sucker born every minute. Don't be the minute man at car auctions.
