In the past anyone who could read and write may be a Lawyers clerk if they find employment in a law firm. But today the situation has drastically altered to a point where you must be well educated in law and Paralegal studies to be able to successfully carry out your duties as a Paralegal. The entry level of a Paralegal is a bachelor degree.
Being aware that not all who aspire to become Paralegals do the necessary research to understand what it takes to be a successful Paralegal, I have written this article to get you acquainted with the fact that only proper training and doggedness makes a successful Paralegal. Get some informed knowledge of Paralegal duties below:
Your duties as a Paralegal in a law firm will include legal documents preparation, filing and indexing of documents, research, interviewing of clients and the conducting of pretrial interrogation of a witness in the law firm. If you are the Paralegal head or the only Paralegal in a law firm, your duties will include the day to day management of the law firm.
On the other hand, if you are employed in the legal department of an organization, it will be your duty to attend to the public on legal matters. and the organization you represent as a Paralegal. In the past most of the jobs Paralegals do today were done by lawyers, but with the upgrading of Paralegal training, firms have found it convenient to hire Paralegals than lawyers and save money.
It is therefore true that every aspect of human calling, today, requires the services of a Paralegal to help attend to the needs of the public who have some legal issues to contend with in the organization. For instance an Insurance Paralegal would have been thoroughly trained in Insurance laws to be able to manage or assist an attorney in handling the legal department in an Insurance firm.
The duties of a Paralegal thus are very huge in paper work and take a lot of man hour to organize. This brings with it a lot of overtime work. If you are not strong enough you may find it difficult to do this aspect of your Paralegal jog. I say this because, even though overtime work is not mandatory, refusing to do it may suffer your work. Conversely, a Paralegal who does his overtime regularly will at the end of the monthly receive a take home pay that is above the average American middle worker monthly pay packet.
To conclude this Paralegal career information, I want you to note that Paralegals are no more seen as Lawyer's clerks as was the case in the past. Today the Entry level for Paralegal career is a Bachelor Degree. Respect for the profession and Paralegals has greatly improved, because Paralegals now come well trained and are much more while handling productive higher responsibilities in law firms and the legal departments of organizations.
