Plan and Organize to Save Money and Gas

By: Scott Siegel

There are two ways to save money on gas, pay less and use less. If you plan ahead you can use less gas, pay the best price and maximize savings. Organizing when and where you buy your gas will help to reduce the amount of gas you use and the price you pay.

For starters when you plan ahead you can take advantage of special buys or coupons that will reduce your price on other products you purchase at the same time you buy your gas. Find coupons and promotions in your area that offer low prices on items that you can purchase at the same place you fill up. Most stations now have mini-mart type stores attached them. You can utilize your coupons or take advantage of promotions at the gas station in those mini- marts

Although you are not saving money on your actual gas purchase, just by combining your convenience purchase with your fuel purchase you will find some money saving benefit by shopping and fueling up at the same location. You will be saving on your convenience purchase and you will be conserving gas by not making an extra trip.

One of the best ways to use advance organizing and planning to save on your gas purchases is to plan when and where to fill up. Do not wait until your tank is almost empty to gas up your car. Organize and plan ahead so you know where you are going to purchase gas. Save by filling up regularly at a gas station that you know has a good price.

If you wait until your tank gets close to empty you will be forced to buy gas at the first station you come upon. Most likely with higher prices than you could have found elsewhere. If you plan ahead you will avoid those situations.

Scouting out the best gas prices as you drive can save you plenty. Keep a look out for stations around your house or on roads you travel often and note the prices and locations in a notebook. Soon you will know where the best deals are. You will have created your own local database of prices without using any additional gas to do it.

In some cases it may pay to wait to buy gas. If on a day that you had planned to buy gas you cannot find the price you were looking for, try waiting a day or two. You may still find the target price you were hoping for. Since the price of gas changes on a daily basis a few days could make a difference. To allow yourself this luxury you must plan to fill up well before your tank is near empty. Then you will have the ability to wait till you find the right gas station with the right price.

A little advance planning can make a difference in your fuel costs. You may believe that the small things don't seem to add up to much savings. Many small things eventually add up to big things. If you always buy smart and drive smart you will see significant savings over time.
