Online Marketing; Choosing the Right Affiliate Programs
By: Daniel Marx
There are two keys to becoming a successful online marketer. The first is getting a reasonable number of people to visit your website(s). The second is choosing your affiliate programs well.
The first question you have to address is demographics. Who are your visitors? Their Gender? Age? Interests? Needs? Consumer habits?
The questions you ask yourself about your audience, and the answers you come up with, are the keys to your success. Pick the right products the first time and you're off to a great start, so give it your best effort. But, don't be stubborn; if the first products you choose don't sell well after a reasonable trial period, try alternatives.
And, realize that you can, with some affiliate programs, make money even if your website visitors don't buy anything. In some cases you can be well paid for producing sales leads.
In some cases you even earn a commission if one of your visitors answers a survey question or signs up for a free pizza or ipod.
While you want to choose programs with high commissions, you might settle for a lower commission if you are offered a percentage of the earnings of everyone you refer to the program. Some referral programs are two or three tiers deep.
And, you should look for programs which:
1. provide a website you can log into to track your sales and earnings.
2. attractive banners or well written text ads which will produce results for you.
3. respond to your concerns, answer your questions, and pay you on time.
4. offer your visitors a good product or service at a fair price.
Finally, and here's one of the best bits of advice I ever got, track everything that moves to look for trends and areas in which you can improve performance.
