Lcd Hdtv Televisions

The latest most highly regarded new technologies are LCD HDTV televisions and the Plasma HDTV TV. There are many who vote for the LCD over the Plasma believing they are superior due to their features and reliability. All of this leaves the consumer in disarray for they all want to but the best system for their money. Having said that it seems this reviewer is leaning toward the liquid crystal display unit over the plasma, not so.

Generally many users of LCD HDTV televisions bought their equipment as it was felt that they were a more robust technology with a longer lifespan. It is said that a LCD screen will last about 100,000 hours against the rumored Plasma's much shorter lifespan. With this in mind it probably has little impact on the consumer to know that the technology is based around polarized light refracted in crystal gels. Due to the high purchase costs of these types of televisions it is no wonder that the longevity of the equipment is a deciding factor.

Many who have purchased an LCD HDTV television have complained about "ghosting," which is a term that refers to a trail left behind fast moving objects on the screen. For instance, if you are watching a NASCAR event, you might notice a slight trail that follows each car because of this "ghosting" that occurs. It happens because the pixels inside the set are milliseconds behind and they are trying to catch up to the object's motion. This could be most annoying when playing video games, too. Although this problem is not as apparent as it used to be, observant viewers might still notice this effect. In a few more years, the companies who manufacture LCD televisions will have perfected this and it will not even be an issue.

Images being burned onto a screen can also pose a problem in LCD televisions. While this occurs with both LCD and plasma screen televisions, the technology used in LCD makes it harder for this to happen. However, if an image does get burned into the screen on an LCD television, it is almost always permanent, whereas on a plasma screen it can correct itself after a period of time.

The decision is out when it comes to the differences between the competing technologies as most reviewers see the longer lifespan of the LCD as a winning factor and the less likelihood of the Plasma to have screen burn, but other than that there is nothing in it. That is the nature of the beast, manufacturers release a new product then according to the feedback they receive about the effectiveness or lack of, they respond by improving the product over time. So the consumer is left at the moment with a decision based on the flaws they are willing to live with.
