Cheap Used Car Auctions Or Car Dealers - Which One To Choose?

By: Davion Wong

There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to cheap used car auctions. Many people still prefer to deal with individual old car sellers rather than taking part in an auto auction. There may be plenty of reasons why: cheap used car auctions are rarely advertised widely, the auction rules seem rather complicated to many people, and a lot of terms like "repossessed", "seized" and "confiscated" tend to be misunderstood as "trashed" and "low quality".

It is easy to assume that buying an old vehicle from a dealer is safe and the best option. However, you need to know that it is not always the case and the car you buy may not end up as a good deal after all.

For 80-90% off the market value, you should be ready to take certain risks be it either a cheap used auto auction or a private auto dealer. In both cases all vehicles are sold "as is" and come with no warranty. It may mean that the car you have bought is nothing but a pile of trash, or it may be in an excellent condition and run for many years to come.

Consider this: when you buy a car from the private auto dealers, the vehicle is definitely old for sure. But with cheap used car auctions, there is a possibility of getting a near new one. Sometimes, it can be just a month old. Also, the selling price of a used vehicle at the dealership is often dependent on factors such as its age and condition. This is not the case with cheap used auto auctions where you may actually find a new automobile at a generously low price.

It might come as a surprise for many people to know, but what private car dealers offer for sale are often the same seized or repossessed vehicles bought on used auto auctions. Clearly, these guys re-sell the cars at a much higher price and cash on the difference. Isn't a difference in a few hundreds and even thousands of dollars worth turning to cheap used car auctions instead?

We would be lying if we say that there is no homework involved. You do need to search for the venues and vehicle listings as well as hire qualified vehicle mechanic to provide an assessment on the car condition. Plus, there is some paper work involved. That said, most common folks can handle that as it is not that difficult and help is available.

The most challenging part used to be in finding cheap used car auctions which are not widely publicized. But with online auto databases, it is an easy affair. Just click a few mouse buttons and the locations as well as its operating hours and car listings are displayed before you.
