Can You Experience A Panic Attack After a Layoff?

Anxiety attacks are unpredictable, sudden, often discrete or not and are characterized by a feeling of fear, discomfort and different other cognitive or somatic symptoms. In most cases an anxiety attack appears with no apparent reason although one always exists. The one suffering might or might not realize what happens but his subconscious knows it all. In most cases an anxiety attack will last around ten minutes but can be even shorter, lasting only around 5 minutes. On the other hand, we also have severe cases of anxiety attacks that are caused by a cyclic series of episodes and can even last for hours. Anxiety attacks will affect people differently and some individuals can even ride out one when they feel it is about to appear.
Causes of Anxiety Attack Experience
There are many reasons that can trigger anxiety attacks. In most cases younger people are more likely to develop them during high school and college years. This is because this is the period that puts the most importance on events. One event that might have caused what is perceived as a humiliation can cause an anxiety attack.
As the fear of that attack repeating is quite strong there's a tendency for one to become prone to second attack. Fear of public speaking is one of the most common type of panic attacks linked with teenagers. This particular fear and cause for anxiety is one of the most common reasons for anxiety in all age groups. The great thing is that most panic and anxiety attacks are relatively easily treated.
There can be many biological reasons that can cause panic attacks as well, things like vitamin B deficiency, obsessive compulsive disorders and post traumatic stress. There are also studies that suggests that heredity plays a relatively large role in anxiety attacks and panic disorders can actually run in the family and inheritance can play a large role in determining who gets anxiety attacks.
Stimulants like nicotine or coffee, phobias and many short term triggering causes that include significant personal loss, changes in life can cause panic attacks. One important change in life can be a layoff and one can certainly develop an anxiety attack if he/she is laid off from work.
When an individual gets laid off, it can be an important shock. Unwillingly, the individual will link it with different other aspects of his/her life. You start thinking about possible lack of money and the fact that it might be difficult to get a new job. If you are over 40 years old there is also a constant belief going on around the world that nobody will hire you again.
If you have a spouse and children, lack of money can be very disturbing. As we all know, money is very important in our lives these days and as you get laid off you start to think about lack of money and how this leads to all sorts of problems in the future and also how this fact can prevent you from getting another job.
Keeping spirits high in these circumstances can be very difficult. However, there are specialists that can help you to get over this kind of anxiety. Unfortunately, this can cost money which you might not have. This is where you feel despair and you start to act unnormally. Anxiety can take you over and that might lead to anxiety attack. These attacks can be quite strong and can lead to effects on one's psychic side.
Process For Possible Layoff
Usually layoff happens becauce the company has to lower costs and it needs to layoff people to keep afloat. Of course there can be other reasons to layoff an individual, but we are not looking into that now. If the company is on the small side they might not be able to offer any substantial compensation for the person who is laid off.
These circumstances can lead to anxiety and panic attacks. If the company is larger, they can offer certain amounts of money as a "gift". These are not usually very large, but at least it can make a difference for your life while you are looking for another job.
If you are laid off the best thing to do is to talk about it with your friends and family. This can be trememdously important and can be the biggest cause to avoid anxiety and even possible panic attacks. In case you have a friend or family member who has been laid off offer him/her your support and help.
As human beings we have the cabability to either help or destroy our fellow beings. In these kind, and in everykind of situations, aid is the things that should come to mind. Anxiety and panic attacks are not nice to deal with so your friends and family members, if they are going through a rough time, like layoffs, need all the help we can give them. To put it simply, we have the means to help them and in return, they can help us when we face bad times.
